Hi all,

I am doing dynamic analysis in Abaqus and I keep getting the attached message in my status file. where it says INSTANCE WITH CRITICAL ELEMENT: HM-NCF-1. I am not sure what casing this, could it be the stable time or mesh quality? Does anyone have any idea?

Best,

In an explicit analysis the stable time increment depends on the mesh and material properties.

The solver outputs a bunch of data every couple of mins so that you can monitor the progress of the solution and the status of the stable time increment.

In your case the critical element that dictates the size of the stable time increment is element #110 which is located in instance 'HM-NCF-1'.

This isn't an error message and can be a useful way of spotting issues. For example, you could accidentally include a tiny sliver element somewhere in your mesh that drastically reduces thr stable time increment and increases CPU time.

It's usually good to check the critical element location to make sure it's not somewhere unexpected.
