Hello Everyone,

I am a Graduate student in Mechanical Engineering and need some help with Abaqus FEA.

I am running a study which is rather simple. I am applying a load to an implant in contact with bone and would like to measure the contact area and pressure experienced at the articulation. My job is running very nicely however the goal is to change the material and see how the results change. Unfortunately, when I change the material the results are the same each time even when I've tried extreme material differences (eg. Cobalt-Chromium E=230GPA vs. PA2200 E=1.64GPa)

Does anyone have any clue as to what the issue could be here?? I will take any suggestions I can get!!

Thank you!

As the stiffness of the material goes down the contact area at the articulation increases and the associated pressure increase (Hertzian contact equation). I've tested this experimentally in the lab with cadaver specimens and so I have an idea of what the results look like. Currently, I am performing validation tests using Abaqus however nothing I try seems to work or produce the results I would expect.
