Is there a command or feature to mirror mesh in Abaqus CAE? I have a symmetrical part which contains a lot of details. I have to use the part in its entirety and it is tedious to mesh using Abaqus CAE. I managed to mesh half of the part after spending a couple of hours and don't want to spend another hour or so meshing the other half. I can't find mesh mirror option in Abaqus CAE. Does Abaqus allow such a feature? I would appreciate any tips on how to achieve a complete mesh of the component with minimal effort (it takes me a lot of time dividing up each surface and setting up edge seeds etc).

In the part module, right click on the part and select copy. In Part Copy window you have options to scale/mirror etc.

I think it is not possible to copy a mesh of a region into another region.

It should be possible to create an orphan mesh from the mesh that you have, mirror that, merge the two meshes and apply loads, BC, etc. on the full mesh.

Let me know if that is an option for you and I would explain more details.

Hi Mustaine3,
If I go about your suggested procedure, I would lose associations with Geometry right? I would be interested if you can provide details on how to associate completed orphan mesh with original Part geometry.

It is not possible to reassociate a orphan mesh back to a geometry.
You can define the analysis with the orphan mesh.
