Has anyone had the pleasure of doing a AASHTO LRFD spread footing design? They are a bit ambiguous with the code, under General Considerations (10.6.1) they say footings shall be proportioned and located to maintain stability under all limit states, considering the potential for overturning (eccentricity), sliding, uplift, overall stability and loss of lateral support.
Now, under the commentary the footing should be proportioned so that the stress under the footing is as uniform as possible for the service limit state. Thus, the eccentricity should be close to the center correct? They give no range for service level eccentricity under the service limit design, but do for strength.
Does anyone check eccentricity for the service level limit state? seems it should still be checked, but have seen examples where only the strength level limit state is checked.
