What purity of water is required for the Hydrostatic tests?

ASTM E-1003 "Standard Test Method for Hydrostatic Leak Testing" states in 7.4 that deionized water should be used.

Should deionized water be used for all materials? or just stainless steel, nickel, or chromium alloys.

Is deionized water required?

Thanks.

ASTM A 540/A 540M does not specify anything but the pressure for the hydrostatic test. You could choose whatever fluid (air, water, hydraulic fluid, etc.) you want.

Here are some threads to review regarding water quality for hydrostatic testing of pressure retaining items. I would suggest you review them and provide a recommendation to the vendor for water quality. This is the Purchaser's responsibility.
