Hello

Which DNV steel material is the best to use when doing FE analyses, is it SMYS 415 or SMYS 450? For the same strain then the stress will be higher in the pipeline and that is not good I guess? What are the advantages of 415/450? Im doing thermal expansion analyses and wondering how the bending moment and the axial strain in the pipeline will change regarding if I have 415 or 450 material.

Thanks

If you are performing a linear-elastic analysis both materials will more-or-less have the same slope in the stress-strain curve in the elastic portion (below yield stress). Therefore, the 450 SMYS will have a marginally higher strain at yield than the 415 SMYS.
