3D SPLINE

I have seen in HELP that I can make a 3 dimensional sweep or pipe using a 3D Spline as a trajectory but nothing in help shows how to draw the spline. The spline button is in sketcher and it requires a sketching plane which will not allow me to draw in the third dimension. How is this performed?

You can also intersect two 2D curves.
