Hi all,
what's your experience of 'standard' processing parameters, those supplied with each metal additive manufacturing production machines?
In my experience the 'standard' parameters provided with a metal 3D printing machines:
- are usually 'locked', ie invisible to the operator;
- are sufficient to build 'something', ie useful enough to quickly assess a design and evaluate necessary supports structure;
- are usually a compromise between mechanical properties, surface finish and machining speed;
- can be unreliable, ie production yield~80/85%;
- are not suited for fines features.
'unlocking' them, ie gaining access to actual values (power, scanning speed, hatching, etc) is expensive and
only gives you a ball-park idea.
what's your take on them?
