2mm offset

Dear freinds,

I have a part which consists of a slot, slot can be 2 mm offset with reference to datum B&C. I want to maintain the slot size to 45 &65. what is the gd&t symbol, I should be using? any thoughts much appreciated?

Slot size cannot be exactly 45 and 65. Do you want to have 45 minimum and 65 minimum? If yes, what would be allowed maximum on those? Or do you want to have 45 maximum and 65 maximum? If yes, what would be allowed minimum on those? Only knowing this we can help you.

The approach you have taken with profile plus position tolerance on the slot is quite a good choice. I would just place all around symbol (circle) at the junction of leader line from the feature control frame and add 2X basic R dimension to one of the radii of the slot.

Like I said, give us the minimum and maximum allowable values of slot's width and height, and then it will be most likely possible to play with profile and position tolerance values to meet your requirements.

I have attached the image.

The cylinder sits in the slot. The size of the cylinder is dia 45.0 max 44.9 min. It sits in a angle and is welded to the plate.

All I need is Slot on the plate can be 2 mm offset, but in size for the cylinder for fitting and allows the cylinder to be tilted to 15 deg for welding.

Your slot is fairly simple case, and you may be able to drop Profile requirement altogether.
If you can get your hands on drafting standard, please take a look at Fig.7-34 in ASME Y14.5-2009.
You can directly tolerance the slot to make sure it fits around mating part and “boundary” concept, which is now understood, will take care of the rest.

Yep, the boundary concept of position tolerance alone will be quite enough. But I still think we need to know what is the maximum area (outer boundary) that the welded tube can occupy on presented counterpart. The fact that Indkitty shown it inclined only in one direction, does not mean, it will not be slightly inclined in any other direction. I do not think it is possible to find this value with the current status of the weldment print. It would be much easier if the tube was controlled by perpendicularity tolerance with relation to the base.

It looks like assembly drawing actually requires more attention here than part drawing.
Unfortunately assembly drawings are undeservedly neglected nowadays, but it’s a different story.

The tube sits in X direction @15 deg angle requirement by customer & on Y direction it is perpendicular to the base plate.
I am not concerned with slight +/-1 deg angle on any side.
My boss says purchasing is getting the base plate done by a subcontractor, who can make the slot, but slot postion could be 2 mm around the plate in x & Y direction as he is sourcing the plate from somebody who cuts to the size length & width +/- 2mm.
I don't want the tube to be sloppy in the slot in 45 mm direction, on the oblong side i can live with it, as welding is done by using a fixture for 15 deg.
As CH pointed out Fig.7-34 in ASME Y14.5-2009. I can use slot as 45 min & 45.2 max with 2mm postional for location of the slot. Slot length I can be generous for 65 as min 66 as Max.
Any suggestion.
