I wanted to find out what information would be needed to determine the size of steel beam that would be needed to support the roof and a small deck (8 x 9 ) Three trusses were cut to allow for the deck but they were supported by walls below. Now we want to remove the walls and support it with either a 6 x 6 x 1/4 steel tube or a wide flange beam 6 x 4 x 12lb. The trusses that were cut are made from 2x6, span 25' on 24" oc and are 36" high at the peak.
With all the news of decks collapsing around the country its got me worried...... thanks

Hire a compitent engineer to access the problem and come up with a solution! Would you diagnose your own stomach pain from information on the internet and do your own appendectomy? If so you will have a fool for a Doctor as you will have a fool for an Engineer if you rely on internet information!

The cost of a PE compared to the cost of someone dying is negligible. Pay up and sleep easy.
