I am trying to figure out what type of switch/timer that when activated would pulse voltage to a solenoid at 6-8Hz then shut down until activated again. I am not sure if a LinCMOS Timer would work or if there is something (Kit) off the shelf that would work. Basically I need the solenoid to only pump for 6-8 times for one second then shut down. Appreciate any help with this, I am a "Klank" and totally lost.

Idec, Omron and others make such a timer. Please review the attached Timing diagrams. I believe from your description the "Cycle 2" diagram is what you are looking for.
