Just asking about.

We just converted to 2007 Solidworks here at work. Has anyone noticed it runs abit SLOWER then when using 2006? Or is it just us here at work?

Thanks

No difference here.

Have you converted all the files to SW07 format before[/b] opening.

[cheers]

Yes, we ran the convert before opening..

We now see a definate slowness in opening drawings and assembly parts.

No, we just upgraded last week, and we are at SP3.1 (Solidworks Professional)

SP4 has many fixes, some of which relate to file size and speed of opening.

[cheers]

Talking with a co-worker right now who is having the SAME problems, we are going to talk with our boss and the TI guy and see if we can get the upgrade. Took awhile just to get the 2007 upgrade (even though the company had the software for abit...

Thanks for your help CorBlimeyLimey

designmr,

What are your computer specs just for a point of reference.

What is the slowness you are seeing? Please be more specific.

Also be sure to get SP 4.0 as CorBlimeyLimey suggests.

SolidWorks 2007 is a bit more demanding of the computer hardware then SW2006. On older computer systems you may notice it to be a bit slower in some areas. For the most part though for us we do not notice any real slowdowns with SW2007.

Annawood, my computer here at work is a Dell with:

Intel Xeon 3.72Ghz
2.0 GB Ram
Nvidia Quadro FX 3500

Ripper, no we did not uninstall the past versions...

Are you opening the files locally or from the network?

Maybe you are experiencing network slowness and the upgrade was just a coincidence.

Josephv, we are all opening file locally...

designmr,
A bit slower? A lot slower! I'm really not too happy with SW2007 at all. I wish I was still on SW2006, but was forced to upgrade due to users installing the software on there computers without IT's approval nor internal beta testing. Anyways...I see a poor performance in the drawings and some in large assemblies. I'm test driving SP4.0 right now and seems to be a slight improvement, but not much as SW preaches.

Macduff, we seem to be having even a bit of trouble with our PDM. I am not a TI guy, so as for installation, I leave that to the TI person. Though our TI person is NOT familiar with how Solidworks works....

designmr, you lost me with the PDM thing. I didn't notice you mentioning PDM in this thread. I thought we were talking about general SW performance?

Sorry, I didn't, but from my cubicle, I'm hearing others talking about the problems they are having with PDM.

My main concern right now is the SPEED, or the LACK of SPEED.

designmr, you mention that your IT guy is not that familiar with SW, which is not a good thing. They need to be very knowledgeable with the SW software, and how it is installed and operates. There's installation manuals at the SW site that has specific guidelines to follow when upgrading or installing new versions of software. I'm sure that the other SW forum users would agree.

Bottom line, I believe SW 2007 is a lot slower.

Good Luck,

Well, Macduff, I know your right about the TI person needing to know how a software works, it that is NOT going to happen here.....

One of those places, huh? I've been there (at those places), done that. Companies need to realize that they need to spend money. Most American companies definition of "Lean Manufacturing" is not to spend money. lol!

Your point about the TI person make sense. We (Solidworks users here) have been wondering whether our computers are actually be used to their fullest (especially with SOLIDWORKS)....
