I have a partial info from a customer who makes aero space parts. He has asked for a casting containing 20% Ni,2% Mo and 3% C. I do not have complete details . I shall be thankful if I could have any more info on this alloy.

Sorry for the incomplete info! Also there is no Cr specified else my first hit would be NiResist.

The closest alloy I could find in several of my references falls under ASTM A 439 Austenitic Ductile Iron Castings.
Type D-2C has the following listed chemical composition;

C max 2.90%
Si 1-3%
Mn 1.8-2.4%
P max 0.08%
Ni 21-24%
Cr max 0.5%*
* - not intentionally added

It is known that Mo can be added to increase elevated temperature properties, which may be the reason for this addition.

Stated Mechanicals for D-2C

UTS min 58 Ksi
YS min 28 Ksi
Elongation (2" gage) 20%
Brinell Hardness (3000 kg) 121-171

If this is an aerospace application someone should have the specification as there are thermal treatments for the Ni resist type irons.

I agree unclesyd. I am preparing the best I can,before I meet them tomorrow. A lot of issues might get cleared. Quite often I observe that the local (Indian) buyer is far too dependent on the principal and lacks any skill to conduct a meaningful dialogue.

As I recall subing Mo for Cr also reduces the thermal expansion.
I forgot about 2C, I never cast it. I did cast a lot of Type 5 with Mo sub for Cr for improved corrosion resistance.
