Forced and natural convection using ABAQUS

While physically you are correct that the surface of the bath isn't flush with the sides, I am starting with the assumption that it is. Right now, I'm more concerned with a semi-accurate comparison between these two situations rather than a realistic accurate answer. The later isn't likely...

Forced and natural convection using ABAQUS

I just thought of a good analogy - Think of this like a giant coffee cup, but with a heater on the bottom.

Forced and natural convection using ABAQUS

I've done a bit of work in ABAQUS in the past, but all has been some form of mechanical loading. I have now been asked to characterize the differences between two proposed heating bath systems. Essentially I have this: Heated cylindrical bath (either molten salt or sand). Heat flux into the...

    Coefficients in Neo Hookean model?

What exactly do the coefficients stand for in the neo hookean hyperelastic model? Do they have some type of physical conversion on what they are actually changing? I can't seem to find much information about them. Thanks.

    simple contour plot question

    Perfect. Thanks.

    simple contour plot question

I am having a brain fart this afternoon and can't remember how to turn off the mesh on my stress contour plot using CAE. Help?

    stable material model help

I have been struggling with my simulation for some time, and I really am beginning to believe it all comes down to my material model. I have stress-strain tensile test data for a biological tissue. The plot is attached. I have been assuming isotropic, hyperelastic and been using the Marlow...

    "Illegal floating point operation"

I am not using a user subroutine, but may have to for my material model - that will be a different question though. Interestingly enough, I attempted to run the exact same model only in 2D instead of 3D, and everything worked. However, the 3D model is on a Unix server while the 2D is on a...

    "Illegal floating point operation"

I'll have to dig around on this one some more. So it's an ABAQUS problem and not mine? That's slightly reassuring. However, I only seem to get it when I am doing a 3D model, not when I am running either 2D or axisymmetric. I'll see about all of my variables and cross my fingers that it works.

    "Illegal floating point operation"

I've received this error a few times today, and can't really figure out what it is, what it means, and how to work around it. Does anyone have any thoughts?

Model will not proceed, contact problem?

EDIT: above file was the improper input file. Correct one attached here.http://files.engineering.com/getfile.aspx?folder=3c6611ed-0a6f-48ea-a5cc-d54d2a7779bd&file=test11_0.inp

Model will not proceed, contact problem?

I think I've been staring at my problem for too long and can't see what is likely a blatent error! I basically have a steel pipe hitting a piece of softer material (supposed to represent a dummy). Contact is defined, so is ALE, and am running in explicit. I gave the pipe a displacement BC to...

Cannot run Input files, please help

Thanks for the tips. I actually did work for quite awhile yesterday simplifying the model, but it didn't work. Finally, I convinced the IT guys to reboot the server I was running on and now it works just fine. No idea what changed or why this happened, but I'm back to running again. Now, if my...

Cannot run Input files, please help

I'm having some major issues and need help ASAP. I have a project due and can't get ABAQUS to work with me. I have been running similar analyses for well over 6 months. This problem has nothing to do with any changes I made to the input file. 3 weeks ago I got an error when I submitted a job...

    Socket error: (111, 'Connection refused')

Are you submitting the job to a larger server computer through a network? I'm not sure exactly, but it seems like an error like that would indicate a problem with your local computer "talking" with the server for some reason. Perhaps all the tokens have already been checked out by another user...

how do i input stress strain data for a mat into abaqus from lab tests

If you already have four tests, a simple average should go along ways to helping your material data be in the ascending order as ABAQUS needs. Remember that ascending refers to the strain values, you don't need ascending stresses.

how do i input stress strain data for a mat into abaqus from lab tests

I am not extremely familiar with compression testing, but is this type of test an accurate material test? You are not only testing the material, but also the geometry and any initial conditions and imperfections of the tube. I'm just tossing an idea out. I would agree with the others with their...

    Clip-spring insertion

I'll try to find some time tomorrow to take a closer look, but in the mean time have you attempted Explicit? It may be better able to solve this problem when you get that error. Give explicit a shot and see what happens. I'll hopefully give yours a go in the morning.

how do i input stress strain data for a mat into abaqus from lab tests

I think you are going to need a full material model, not just the plastic region. Otherwise, how is ABAQUS going to know what to do before the plastic region is reached? I might be confused from your material data, though. I see an initial point of strain=0.687789991 and stress=0.101316845, the...

how do i input stress strain data for a mat into abaqus from lab tests

I'm not sure about impact tests, I've never attempted to simulate these, but I ran into the same problems you are with non-ascending data from tensile testing. The problem is that for some stress values you have the same strain. Essentially, you have two Y's for a single X. I had to input my...
