Thank you Master Waross
that is explanation is a big help in filling in the missing
pieces to the puzzle
after much more digging i find this sort of control probably lost favor as electronic AVR's got better, cheaper and more dependable.
i can also see how the market for the older method...
guys, i am looking for any info at all on this series of alternator or alternatively and reference material on
what is known as "revolving armature ac generators"
also any info on transformer controlled alternators, i think they refer to them as "current compounding transformer" field control...
i am looking for information on the stamford D range alternator,
the unit i am looking at is in malaysia and i am here in the states, so getting hands on look is not possible
the unit is a 15kva single phase, what sets it apart is the
field poles are fixed in the housing, and the rotor is...
two amps will be unmeasurable in terms of increased fuel consumption, outside of anywhere but the most accurate test cells on the planet
in the real world you will never notice the difference

go to a large resterant supply store and have a look at
their heavy duty stainless mixing bowls
they make them from small to huge,
they all have a flat bottom, and they nest together tightly
one could cut the bottoms out and have stainless pipe tig welded in and you have your ball swivel...
thanks again,
one last question if i might
i am not convinced that my ampclamp meter is capable of reading amperage even approximately (+/- 5% would be nice)
at 500hz.
it appears to be able to read, and reads repeatedly with the same numbers, but i am not at all convinced i have 18amps
on a...
thanks one and all, you guys are the best
now for another twist, i was mistaken and forgot to consider
the three single phase transformers i am supplying with this power source,
i have them setup as delta on primary, and Y on secondary
the secondaries are rectified for battery charging.
so...
let me add to this the following
i have no access to the neutral connection of the Y
so i am measuring the voltage across to legs, and it is a balanced load.
i am measuring the amperage with a clamp on meter on one leg
and getting an 18amp reading at full load,
the pf is unity
i assume that...
ok fella's i am trying to get my head around this, and can't seem to grasp the concept, so i come to you with my hat in hand, hopeing to get some help.
i have a small 3 phase alternator, stator connected in Y configuration
i am measuring 80 volts phase to phase, and 18amps at load
with my...
thank you Master Bill
i think i understand what you presented, at least enough so
that i can maybe more closely define my question should there be one.
your direction is much appreciated

ok, let me preface my question
1. a three phase alternator, that can be connected in wye or delta
2. i don't care about frequency, the speed will be fixed at ~5000 rpm whether connected as wye or delta
3. the output voltage needs to be the same whether is it connected as wye or delta
4. the...
if you resize the big end, be sure to pay particular attention to the detail at the parting line.
there is generally a ramp cut into the upper half which directs the oil so it can effectively form the hydraulic wedge as the crankpin turns
if your resizing removes this ramp, you may not get...
thanks one and all for you input, i have done a bit more
reading and now understand about enough to be dangerous
but hopefully enough to do what i am wanting to do.
because the engine runs at steady state, under full load
i can maintain temperatures without issue, and due to other control...
thats full load at 640 as measured on the pipe about one inch out from the port with a laser temp gun,, so probably the exhaust flow itself is a bit higher?
i am a bit concerned with particulate clogging as well, and am thinking of secondary injection to do a periodic burn off.
are the cats...
ok, here is the scoop
a single cylinder diesel test engine, driving a fixed
load of 8kwatts (generator) at a fixed speed of 1800rpm
the exhaust gas leaving the exhaust port is 640 degrees F
the exhaust is going into a prototype heat exchanger
i would like to insert a small catalytic...
we started a new forum focused on micro cogeneration
and a topic came up where a guy took a 10kwatt 1800rpm
genhead and mounted it vertically so he could drive it with
a vertical shaft engine that he had,
the question came up as to whether or not the brgs could hold up any reasonable time...
no i have not, nor will i likely ever
as far as i am concerned batteries should never be allowed
to get into a condition where extraordinary means are needed to remove normal sulfation from battery plates.
now having said that, :)
certainly not ever set of batteries is carefully maintained...
i have little to add, but a couple of questions
it appears your alternator exhibits behavior very much in keeping with that of an automotive alternator of the lundell design, in that it is heavily reactance limited.
that would explain the 50amps across one phase with no damage, due to huge...
ok fella's
the term phases looks to be used only when there exists
a difference in X electrical degree's?
i suspect the proper use should be a difference in location
on the stator in physical X degree's
reason being
i can have a 2 pole machine wound with two coils 120vac each
and it would...
