Steel Beam to Wood Post Connection

Does anyone see any issues with this detail? TIA

    Woodworks Software

I tried Woodworks many years ago and didn't find it productive at the time. I found it too tedious for single member design. For an entire framing system, it didn't provide a "final" analysis, but a "conceptual" analysis (based on my feeble memory, I could be in error with the terms). That...

    Spalled Concrete

I'm going to look at a situation where a concrete beam has spalled concrete and the owner would like to repair it. I don't have any issue with doing this. I would probably specify something like Sika Dur Hi Mod 32 for a bonding agent, but my concern is, unless I shore the beam to relieve the...

Load Duration Factor CD for wood

If a roof deck will be used by people, ASCE 7 says I need to use the same live load as the occupancy served (table 4.3-1). Is the Cd = 1.00 or 1.25? Thank you,

Forces on Laterally Loaded Non-Constrained Piles (2022 CBC Section 1807.3.2.1)

This formula provides the required embedment, but how do I determine the forces on the pile below grade? Thank you

    Android App for HP48

I have two apps on my Android phone which simulates an HP48: Droid48 48sx I have a real HP35s. Problem: On my HP35s, when I want to store a number, I press STO then a key. The key I most often use is the upper left hand one marked "A". When I want to recall that number, I press RCL and then "A"...

    ASCE 7-16 Chap 28

I guess I'm still having difficulty applying wind loads on buildings based on ASCE 7. I got over it on C&C with help from members here by pointing out I don't have to use a trib area less than L^2/3. Now, I'm stuck on the MWFRS, chapter 28. Here, I'm only interested in the net horizontal force...

Omega exception for single family residences in CBC 2022?

Is there an exception for hold down anchors in concrete using for wood-framed single family residences? If not, all my anchorage capacities have diminished greatly. TIA

Responding to Plan Checker's Comment (the polite method)

I have a plan check comment that one of my beams is 2% overstressed. While I always try not to exceed a CSR ratio of 1.0, it sometimes happens (putting a bigger beam is expensive, not available, etc.). This is a wood-framed residential remodel, which should be as safe as any other structure, I...

    2x Nailer

I need to attach a 2x nailer to a HSS section. It needs to be a flush connection. Welded studs will not leave enough meat. Simpson fasteners can only go into steel that is 5/16" thick or thinner. Any ideas? Thank you

    Visibility By Level

Is it possible to view only a portion of a model? For example, if I have a 3 story building with a roof, can I create a view so I only see the second floor framing? Otherwise, there's too much clutter in the way. Thank you

    Beam Deflections

Still a RISA noobie. I'm checking deflections of the attached model, particularly Span 2 of FB-1. When I look at the spreadsheet for Member Deflections (Explorer/Results/Member Deflections), I find the minimum (maximum negative) deflection to be 0.28" for LC 3.LC 3 is full LL (RLL + FLL). This...

    Area Loads for Non-Rectangular Area

RISA 3D noobie here. How does one apply an area load to a non-rectangular area. Attached is an outline of my tributary floor. Thank you,https://files.engineering.com/getfile.aspx?folder=c1e949c0-30aa-4065-a759-4a17faaf5ffa&file=22124_Floor_Area_Loads.dwg

Importing RISA Section into RISA 3D

How do I import a RISA Section into a 3D Model? I watched the tutorial, but it is based on a previous version of RISA with a totally different interface. Do I have to store the sections in a specific folder or what? TIA
