    weldtek Our procedures must be aproved by TSSA and as far as I know they have always taken the stace that because the consumable can exceed the limits imposed by SFA 5.18 the wire is not aproved. Do you specify in your procedure that the MTR for filler metal is inspected and aproved before use?

    E70 S6 does not meet the chemical analysis of A1. E70 S2 or S3 do meet this requirment so there is considerable difference and sice a change in the A number is an essential variable you always need separate procedures for these two wires.

    I realize you posted this in the AWS forum but we weld lots of ASME pressure vessels with GMAW that are 100% RT inspected. there is no reason why GMAW welds should fail an RT inspection.

    The weld symbol is a basic fillet weld so does not specify a filler metal but how else will you achieve the fillet size required. You cannot just melt the parent metal so you must add something.

    Is it a pressure vessel if it contains a solid instead of a liquid or gas?

    Lots of presses stamp out parts by compressing powders or pellets with thousands of pounds pressure in a die form without being a pressure vessel. I would think your chamber would be considered a form not a pressure vessel.But i am not an engineer :-)

    Look for a National Board number on the data plate if you are US or CRN number if you are in CANADA. These two organizations also keep records.
