I am quoting a Pinion Gear for Allison and the steel specification is TMS 63002, can you help me find the SAE, UNS, etc., designation for this material? The drawing calls for Carb & Hdn to 15N87 Min. with a core hardness of Rc 20.

Thank you for your response. We are actually 2nd tier on this item, and it was our customer who found out how their customer was checking the part. We felt, as you illustrate above, that the CMM is actually calculating the centerlines between the three diameters and calling out the distance...
I agree R1100S, the customer is "ALWAYS" right!
I guess my main question was two-fold; which methodology would be the preferred, and why the great variance between the two checks. We are concerned that variance may be due to a software issue that could raise its head in other areas, but if the...
We are producing a pinion, approx. 30mm long that calls for the cylindricity of the I.D. to be within 7 microns. Using a CMM we initially programmed the probe to scan in a spiral motion throughout the length of the pinion I.D. (except the first millimeter on each end). The results on six pieces...
Thank you CoryPad & Hydroformer!
I checked with the requisitioner and the correct spec is GM6218M grade 340. We assume the 340 refers to HSLA material, but we would need to procure it in a Ø 1.25" bar. My initial material source stated that he has never seen 340 HSLA in a bar form of that size...
I have a drawing for Weld Nuts that specifies the material type as GMS218M. G.M. is the end user so I am assuming that the material is a GM specification. There were not hits at all on the internet for this item. Can anybody tell me what the SAE or ASTM equivalent would be for this material?
