    Skip I, O, Q, S, X, Z Rev letters - does it really matter?

Just wanted to follow up to say I did listen to your wisdom. I decided it was safer to stick with the ASME system. Rev letter confusion - I think it is probably a low frequency (unlikely) but high impact sort of error situation. I wrote a Dispatch script (a software tool) for Enterprise PDM...

3DDave and Kenat - those are excellent points you added. I had not thought of that.

    Skip I, O, Q, S, X, Z Rev letters - does it really matter?

Thanks for all replies! """""" """"""" And Z could be a 2 I guess. But if that happens, what is the impact? PO says make it to rev Q, drawing says rev Q, they will then make the correct part even if they think it is rev zero. There are probably other scenarios...

    Skip I, O, Q, S, X, Z Rev letters - does it really matter?

I working on implementing a PDM system, and I think we should use straight alpha Revisions, and not skip any letters. The opposing side wants to follow the ASME guidelines and skip I, O, Q, S, X and Z. I would be more satisfied with this if someone gave me some good arguments on why this is...

    Part Numbering and SolidWorks

Good point AnnaWood, but I'm pretty sure PDMLynx is genuinely cheap, it is a very small (vulnerable?) operation. Support is 20% of the purchase price. It seems like a good basic PDM system. It does not run "in-sesssion" with SolidWorks, but that doesn't bother me much. They offer a 30 day demo...

    Part Numbering and SolidWorks

Update on PDMLynx. It is only $800 per editing user one time! permanent license! Support is optional. I will have to look at what it can do more thoroughly. That is way cheaper than other options (but more confidence inspiring than free).

    PDM, ECM and CRM Review

Which one? (the software company, not the people)

In need of a new PDM system supporting SolidWorks

Joe - Please tell us more! Are you using Aras as a PDM system? I've heard it is lacking as a PDM unless you pay for CAD connectors.

    Part Numbering and SolidWorks

@gopack13 Matt, You mention ERP is not what you want, but I’m not clear exactly what you are after (and the boundaries between different categories are blurry to me). Almost ERP, MRP, PLM, PDM? Software to “store/generate your part numbers and all subsequent information”… “All info” includes...

    OHL OverHung Load explanation

The "Transmission element factor" is also referred to as the "Load Connection Factor". The Dodge Quantis Gear Engineering Catalog gives some slightly different values than what Acajun showed. Chain Drive: 1.00 Spur or Helical Gear: 1.25 Synchronous Belt Drive: 1.30 V-Belt Drive: 1.50 Flat...

    configuration of Solidworks search functionality

You have probably figured this out by now. But I have XP 64 also. When I open Windows Search there is a drop down menu with the option to add or remove a location. In your case you could go to My Network Places (and if you the drive you want there then you can select it). Or you could play...

    OHL OverHung Load explanation

Thanks for the replies. dvd and PeterCharles you've helped me to picture the problem better. This is the first time I've sized a gearbox (~220:1 reduction to a chain driven sprocket. Probably a 2 hp motor. Only 8 rpm output.) The 2nd equation [OHL = torq/(pitch radius)] definitely makes more...

    OHL OverHung Load explanation

MikeH, That kinda seems like how it should work. In other words you are saying we are aiming for a larger number, or higher rating as output from the equation, if I understand your point. However, that doesn't match what the 2009 Dodge Quantis catalog is saying in the How To Order section...

    OHL OverHung Load explanation

This is just something I'm curious about. What is the Overhung Load calculation really telling us? I can't justify the OHL calculation in my head. Why would increasing the rpm reduce the OHL (be more favorable) for a gearmotor? If one doubles the output rpm then the OHL is reduced by a factor...

    Cryogenic, Low Pressure RV

You might have trouble with the -440F. It seems more common for cryogenic valves to stop at around liquid nitrogen temps, around -325F. Other problem is the extremely low 0.25 psi set pressure, that's uncommon as well. http://www.regoproducts.com/cryoflow/cg/pdfs/relief.pdf Not sure how...
