I use Windows XP 64 Bit. I need to configure the Windows search (for better Sw search). How can I add the network drive to the search location. I go to indexing options from control panel, clicked on the modify but don't find any way to add new location. I need to add network location.

Under advanced options, there is index file prop only & index contents also. Which one is recommended in viewpoint of SW.

You have probably figured this out by now. But I have XP 64 also. When I open Windows Search there is a drop down menu with the option to add or remove a location. In your case you could go to My Network Places (and if you the drive you want there then you can select it).

Or you could play around (in Windows Explorer) with Tools >> Map network drive. And use that to put the network drive in My Computer.

Also, the SolidWorks Search seems to be an underutilized tool (and I admit it is not perfect), but it is sometimes quite effective (if you don't have tons of search results). It searches inside SW documents (and other types) for places file names are mentioned. So if you search for a part number (or part description) and it is used in an assembly then it will find the part and the assy. And it if the part number is mentioned in an Excel spreadsheet it will find that too. I have a Search bar in the upper right of SolidWorks, and the SolidWorks Explorer is a way to open the search tool by itself.

You don't say what version of SolidWorks you use, but this should apply for setting the search locations.
In SW go to Tools>>Options and on the System Options Tab select File Locations. Then use the drop down menu to select Search Paths. You can then edit the Search Paths.
