DaveAtkins is correct. When you have a grid system consisting of a composite deck, then you need to check for the floor vibrations. Pure concrete slab need not be checked. If you look at the formulation of DG 11, you will notice it asks for entitiies like girders and beams and the direction...
Either is good. Depends on where you are constructing it - which codes are u using - American, British? Seismic or not? We use both software to model concrete structures. STAAD handles shear walls better and the modeler is much easir to use. Etabs output can get a little confusing but it has...
I was at a Staad seminar in Dallas and noticed they had a similar capability in their new version. Put in the zip code and it creates a response spectrum based on the IBC graphs. But if you go to their website, there is nothing about their new version yet.
We use STAAD.beam. It seems to be very powerful and does composite beams, checks for vibrations, considers web holes and gives a full detailed set of calculation sheets that shows you how they did the design. We bought an entire site license for like $500 so it was cheap as well.

I thought it was a rumor until I saw it on bentley's website today (http://www.bentley.com). Does this mean that they will not support AutoCAD anymore?
I think STAAD is the standard engineering analysis tool in the industry. Every software has good and bad. We don't use STAAD for timber design (we use WoodWorks). We don't use RISA anymore since it is more redundant. STAAD is very flexible and it's multi-material support (concrete + steel) is...
Go to http://eqdesign.cr.usgs.gov/html/design-lookup.html. They have a Web-based program that does what you are asking for. Also, STAAD.Pro does it for you as well if you are looking for software to do it.
Sure. Our engineers here have several macros (I don't know how to write one) that retrieve a ton of info from their outputs. An OpenSTAAD manual is included with your installation. If you are planning to use Excel, I would suggest opening the XLS file in the OpenSTAAD directory and playing...
I think it is an OS issue. Look at this link from their FAQ posting. http://www.reiworld.com/Search.asp?id=SP-1565
We were told that the older versions may not run on XP which I think is your OS on your newer computers. The drivers for the locks have changed.
Is the ADL PIPE also going with Bentley? I know STAAD is a division of netGuru but it didn't say in the press release that all of the products were going. It would make sense if they did. I think the combo of Bentley + STAAD is HUGE. We have been looking for a good CAD + Analysis + Piping...
I think the seismic for ASCE 7-02 just points back to IBC. For wind, we use the ASCE 7 wind load generator STAAD provides. Generating the pressure distribution (profile) is done fairly well on many software, but many of them don't apply it correctly to odd-shaped buildings or structures like towers.
