    concrete topping slab

Thanks for all of the great replies! Would anyone use an epoxy bonding agent instead of the cement paste for a stronger bond? If so, would you also wet the slab before applying the epoxy bonding agent. In response to jike's response about the fire rating, the depression was to allow floor...

    concrete topping slab

I have a project with an existing lightweight concrete (3000 psi) slab on metal deck on steel beams. The existing slab has 2 large areas of depressed slabs. One is a 2" depressed slab (11,000 ft^2) and the other is a 3/4" depressed slab (2500 ft^2). Currently there is tile and grout in the...

    Steel/Aluminum connection

Will painting steel and aluminum prior to fastening them together with stainless steel screws prevent a galvanic reaction? This will be used for an exterior canopy. Or should a separation tape be used. Thanks.

    Building joint spacing

frv, I do have a few shear walls in the 100' direction. I was thinking I would not need an expansion joint because I have CJ's in the CMU. I know the CMU walls will still have alot of stiffness at approximetly 24' in length, but I was assuming this would still allow for some expansion and...

    Building joint spacing

I have a two story school I am designing that is apperoximately 320'x100'. The structure is masonry loadbearing walls at the perimeter and along the interior corridor which runs down the middle of the building parallel with the 320' exterior walls. The second floor is metal joists with...

    Knee bracing in SDC 'C'

My question is if I can use knee bracing in SDC 'C'? I would be using and R=3 (structural steel systems not specifically detailed for seismic). The knee braces would be used in one direction only with both the brace to beam and brace to column connections being about 5 feet from the...

    Unbonded topping slab thickness

I am designing a building which has part of the second floor as a balcony over an enclosed space. The Architect is showing the balcony as my composite deck and slab system with a waterproofing membrane and an unbonded topping slab on top of this which slopes to a drain. I was going to make the...

Response factor R for strap bracing of steel framed bldg.

Yes, I agree also but the Seismic Provisions for Structural Steel Buildings (1997) Supplement #2 dated November 10, 2000 deletes paragraphs 14.2 through 14.5 and replaces it with a single paragrapgh that states the required strength of members and connections.

I think I need the '74 edition. I need info for QL-21-20 deck.

Response factor R for strap bracing of steel framed bldg.

Thanks for the info. What would the 'R' value be if this were in SDC 'C'?
