Just a question because I know it is coming, What is API's stance on using an AL-6XN or 254 SMO material on a tank. I know Duplex is now widely accepted in harsh environments. If these materials are requested can the parameters in Annex X be used with them? Or will it just be per good...
Thanks for the reply's. I was sure I could use the material as long as it was not a pressure boundary component. Just wanted to verify.
The AR400 plate is being used as a liner on the inside of the vessel in an abrasive process. The vessel has two tangential inlet nozzles in the section of...
Similar to a post below about the large man way, I have a client asking us to bid a tank with an extremely large flush clean out. It is to be 60"x72" to be exact. Now API 650 5.7.7.2 it clearly states that the maximum height for a flush clean out is 48" for Group I thru IIIA, and 36" for...
Need some help on tolerances for the bolting flange on a LWN flange. I cannot find anything in B16.5 that corresponds directly with this. Just for back ground the nozzles had to overlayed with an alloy and during the overlay the flanges warped some due to the heat input. The sealing surface...
fegenbush, sorry for the delay in answering this, but this was also one of my concerns. The answer I got was the beams and plates have a factor of safety built into the allowable stresses for design. I do not agree with this, I believe the minimum live loads must be applied in the design of...
Thanks for the comments. The only reason for the eliminating the live load was to reduce cost. But I don't believe that cost should be used to compromise the integrity of the design for a tank. And due to emissions these tanks cannot have a open top. Again thanks.
Per API 650 5.2.1f the Minimum Roof Live Load on the horizontal projected area of the roof is to be 20lb/ft^2, or may be determined by ASCE 7 , but shall not be less than 15lb/ft^2.
My question is can this load be reduced to 0 lb/ft^2 at the owner's request and the tank still be considered an...
