RE: Flame straightening

RE: Flame straightening
I have not seen any mention of flame straightening in the ASME B&PV code. My reasoning is that it is too difficult to standardize in code words. That is to say, it cannot be used. It would have to be up to the AI to accept this method - which in most cases is accepted provided no metallurgical changes are induced in the material.
bvi - a repair standard by ASME is only a guideline until it is accepted and endorsed by the NBIC. The NBIC is the standard that governs repairs of in-service pressure retaining items.

Questions?
Do you have a procedure? Can you back it up?
Does it cover temperatures and ranges? Do you normalize after? Are there metallurgical changes and do they impact the strength?
This is what I would ask. Process and Control.
