Bellville springs/Taper Roller bearings at 4K
Bellville springs/Taper Roller bearings at 4K
(OP)
Does anyone have any experience with using taper roller bearings in a 4K cryogenic application, using 302 stainless bellville washers to pre-load a pair of opposed bearings?
My concerns are
1. lubrication of the bearings - most of my research indicates that molybdenum disulphide dry lube is suitable even at those temperatures
2. whether the springs will still act as springs, or will become brittle and crack. Also, I can't find any specific data for stainless at that temperature, but all indications are that the elastic modulus climbs quite a bit as the temperature falls.
Any links or suggestions?
