Welding pipes 40 ft underground

Welding pipes 40 ft underground

(OP)
Hello,

Does anyone here have any experience with welding down in a 40 ft temporary pit? For a project, two pipes need to be welded together but this weld needs to take place 40 ft below grade. We are planning to construct some sort of temporary steel caisson with pumps running continuously to keep the water out.

I am in the process of researching what our options are, not working on a design or spec yet.

Does anyone have some experience with this or can point me in the right direction to see how this is commonly done?

Thank you

Plenty of money to pay the welders.

Might need some ventilation, but depends on your design of the caison.

Another option of the steel caisson is to use the sheet piling to have the safe egress and adequate work space for the deep underground work.

Creating a low risk, dry environment for people to do their work is what you need to do.

People weld things in all sorts of environments given the right conditions. this sounds a bit like you're trying to do it on the chaep?

Hire very good health and safety guys, and then do what they say.
Proper excavation, reinforcement, access and evacuation ability, along with ventilation are critical to worker safety.
It the workers are not comfortable and safe you won't get usable welds.
