Welding of A53 Gr. B

Welding of A53 Gr. B

Welding of A53 Gr. B

(OP)
Hello,

I've never used Pipes with A53 Gr.B Steel for structural purposes, only A500, but a cliente has a supplier who sells these Pipes and he wants to use It.

I saw that the AISC Spec. considers A53 Gr.B as one of the HSS approved steels. My question is if there are some restrictions to welding of this material. Since it's a steel more appropriate for fluid conduction, i'm not well aware and am afraid to specify some inadequate weld process.

Thanks in advance.

Welding is virtually the same as with A-500.

Thanks weldstan.

Per the below article from the Steel Tube Institute, "when you use an A53 pipe, you will pay in part for the sealant that producers use to coat the outside of the pipe. In order to weld to these pipes, a fabricator must remove the sealant you have paid for, an unnecessary cost and extra step in the fabrication process".
