Vent Requirement on OH3 Seal Plan 13

(OP)
Hi fellow engineers. A pump supplier has provided us a vent with API Plan 13 for an API 610 vertical inline OH3 pump. I did not know there was a requirement of a vent. Do we know why it is required and can we blind it off? Thanks.

RE: Vent Requirement on OH3 Seal Plan 13

Suspect this high point from the seal chamber is to allow of escape of flash vapor produced in the sealing liquid as a result of the heat generated at the seal faces. This would be valid for process liquids with bubble point temp lower than say 15-20degC above the max operating temp of the process liquid at minimum normal operating suction pressure.
