Dear experts,

If I'm replacing my piston and con-rod to forged lightweight components in my inline 4 cylinder engine, do I need to lighten the crank's counterweights as the reciprocating weight has dropped?

No. The ratio of counterbalance to reciprocating mass is a very woolly number. However there seems little point in fitting lightweight parts and then not taking advantage of a decrease in mass elsewhere.

Cheers
