I HAVE A DCS SYSTEM FOR PLANT CONTR

I HAVE A DCS SYSTEM FOR PLANT CONTR

I HAVE A DCS SYSTEM FOR PLANT CONTR

(OP)
I HAVE A DCS SYSTEM FOR PLANT CONTROL.
I ALSO HAVE GOT PLC FOR BOILER CONTROL
PLC IS CONNECTED TO DCS VIA TCP/IP
DCS TS CONNECTED TO ELECTRICAL DRIVES THROUGH PROFIBUS.
CAN I CONTROL MOTORS CONNECTED WITH BOILER PLANT THROUGH DCS

RE: I HAVE A DCS SYSTEM FOR PLANT CONTR

Does your statement "PLC IS CONNECTED TO DCS VIA TCP/IP infer some form or industrial communications already having been implemented? For instance Ethernet/IP, Modbus/TCP, Profinet?

Does the PLC actually control the motors in the boiler plant now?

If so, with some software mods on both ends, it should be possible to control (on the boiler) that the PLC already controls.

RE: I HAVE A DCS SYSTEM FOR PLANT CONTR

If you are in the part of the world that follows NFPA 85 Boiler and Combustion Systems Hazards Code, the safety supervisor and the boiler operating system will not be implemented in the same hardware.
Either or both can be implemented in a DCS or PLC. The safety supervisor can be implemented in a Functional Safety Programmable Logic Controller or the safety functions can be implemented in a standard PLC.
These components can talk to each other by all sorts of means, this is one of the ways to get data to the operators console.

Yes you can control the fans from the boiler operator be it a DCS or PLC, but never from the safety supervisor system. Some DCS vendors claim that their safety qualified DCS hardware can safely manage both safety and operating functions. I am skeptical.
