load combination of Special moment resisting frame

(OP)
Greetings,

as per the Etab documentations/ACI318-14 design of special moment resisting frame table-3.1 mentioned specified combinations in front of the design of shear/moment for the beams and columns(see attached snapshot), my question is, does he mean from this statement(specified combinations) that I have to use the automatically generated load combinations(generated by software), or I can define my own load combinations and the software will be used in the design/check of special moment resisting frame.
otherwise what the exactly meaning from specified combinations in table-3.1.

Thank you

RE: load combination of Special moment resisting frame

You can define your own design load combos per ASCE with seismic effects (including Eh, Ev with Sds, rho, omega where applicable) and then assign those design load combos as Design Combos for Steel/Concrete Frame or shear walls...

Thnx hotmailbox

But why in the etabs documentation manual mentioned this statement (specified combination) because for sure i have to define the combination in order to design the section otherwise how can i design/check the sections without the combination.

Thank you
