Elbow 90 degrees Fabrication

Elbow 90 degrees Fabrication

Hello,

Is it allowed by standard to weld two 45 degrees elbows to get a 90 degrees elbow? and whether the fabricated elbow can withstand pressure and temperature?

Thanks,

RE: Elbow 90 degrees Fabrication

Yes it's allowed, or rather isn't prohibited. You might not have the same dimensions as a single 90 elbow and it will look a little bit odd, but if that's all you have then OK.

Why can't you just buy a 90 elbow??

RE: Elbow 90 degrees Fabrication

Did someone over order 45o elbows?

Good Luck,

'Cause then you'd have to cut it in half.

RE: Elbow 90 degrees Fabrication

It does look like 2 x 45 is the same dimensions as 1 x 90...

RE: Elbow 90 degrees Fabrication

Is this a suggestion from a welder? They get paid by the weld. It's almost always less expensive to purchase the "right" fitting.

RE: Elbow 90 degrees Fabrication

They are the same dims but slightly different shape. It will work but look funky.

"Funky pipework" eh?

Just think what your manager / plant manager is going to say.

"Funky" isn't the word that will be used I think....

Thanks all for your contribution.

The case that we have excess stock of 45 Elbows and I thought of using them instead remaining on the shelves.

RE: Elbow 90 degrees Fabrication

'dogs-hash' is more like it.

RE: Elbow 90 degrees Fabrication

If a 50% increase in installation cost is worth it...

RE: Elbow 90 degrees Fabrication

Keep them on the shelf or sell them on ebay.
