Stainless shear stud to mild steel

Stainless shear stud to mild steel

(OP)
Hello

Is it possible to fix stainless shear studs to a mild steel structural element.

I have an application where Id like to produce some composite action between an insitu sea wall and some sheet pile however have durability concerns with the shear studs introducing a corrosion pathway into the wall leading to failure of the connection.

the sheet is heavy gauge for driving/install therefore dont have concerns with corrosion of the external wet face, over design life, however there is a risk of water ingress finding its way to the interface between the sheet and insitu wall and attacking the stud.

would it be possible to use a corrosive resistant stud such at SS or would this cause more issues than it solves via galvanic corrosion of dissimilar metals?

Appreciate any assistance

RE: Stainless shear stud to mild steel

I would stay with steel, mixing materials has some additional risks.

RE: Stainless shear stud to mild steel

The concrete will offer some passification against corrosion.

Rather than think climate change and the corona virus as science, think of it as the wrath of God. Feel any better?
