Went down a YouTube hole tonight and found this to be interesting.

Hopefully the like works

RE: Interesting Video (When Engineering Students Get the Keys to the Shaker Table Room)

It's a student competition, testing little wooden towers to failure on a shaker table. Pretty cool!

Incredible last man standing...

Rather than think climate change and the corona virus as science, think of it as the wrath of God. Feel any better?

Maybe I should change the name of this thread..... as it may be a little misleading.

RE: Interesting Video (When Engineering Students Get the Keys to the Shaker Table Room)

In university we made popsicle stick bridges and loaded them to failure. I enjoyed that but this is much cooler! Thanks for sharing.

The moment frame at the 2 minute mark is interesting in how it reacts to the 6Hz while everything else around it moves!

Really cool video.

I do woodworking as a hobby. I have made a few Shaker tables - also chairs, cabinets, etc. Never thought to test them to failure, however. Given the lawsuit craze, perhaps I should.

RE: Interesting Video (When Engineering Students Get the Keys to the Shaker Table Room)

Good video. This is next level popsicle stick bridge competition right here!

RE: Interesting Video (When Engineering Students Get the Keys to the Shaker Table Room)

My alma mater (at a top rank university) had a multi million dollar shake table that mostly sat around collecting dust when it wasnt (very) occasionally used for some abstract PHD research

As an undergrad I built a pop-can crusher and an RC hovercraft as my major undergrad projects

Meanwhile I wonder why I spend half my time in shock and the other half of my time banging my head against the wall when I deal with half of my colleagues in the profession (to be fair there are a lot of brilliant colleagues as well)

As we wonder in awe at how it could be that the Japanese are such better earthquake engineers
