DIN 1048.5 Water Permeability - Wire Brushing
(OP)
thread592-404526: Water Permeability Test DIN 1048
The method requires wire brushing to "roughen the surface".
Unfortunately, as has been raised in someone else's ISO 17025 audit, the question remains... "how much brushing" or "how rough".
Underlying that are three questions.
1) Does it make any difference to the result (we are usually testing cores, trimmed to length with a water cooled diamond saw, and have no difference whether the cores are brushed or not).
2) Does it make it any harder to seal the specimen in the pressurisation cell? For lower strength concrete, it most definitely does.
3) Why did those who drafted this method not see these questions coming? Surely not because they are human.
