Creating Views of Part Simplified Representations

I am currently using Creo 4.0 and I am not able to create a drawing view of a simplified rep of a part (not assembly). I have tried unsuccessfully two different ways:

1) Open up the Drawing View window, go to "View States", and the "Simplified representation" window is grayed out with Master Rep selected
2) I also tried to change the Rep by going to "Drawing Models", "Set/Add" rep, but the only option is Master Rep

Finally, I was able to kind of get it to work with some issues. I added the general view with it defaulting to Master Rep. Then I right click on that view, press "Replace View Model", and "Select New Model/Representation" and then select the representation I need. The problem is, if I modify the actual .prt in any way, the drawing view reverts back to the Master Rep and does not allow me to change it back so I am forced to delete this view and start over.

What gives? Should I be able to do this with my version of Creo? If so, how? Any suggestions for troubleshooting?

Thanks,
Matt

I would just make family table instances of the generic as your simplified part. I've always found family tables to be much easier to work with.

The Help for this program was created in Windows Help format, which depends on a feature that isn't included in this version of Windows.

I expect that part simplified reps are only going to show up on drawings as substitutes into assembly simplified reps.

For some reason people tend to use simplified reps as a substitute for configuration control and PTC has generally resisted making that easy. Simplified reps were created to lower graphics/display demands, not to represent configurations, but it doesn't stop people from trying it.
