Hello All

I was wondering if anyone had any research project ideas in the field of Civil Engineering but includes the use of the Python Programming Language.

I am trying to learn the Python Programming Language and I thought it would be a good idea to combine Python with a Civil Engineering project i think it would be a very good learning experience.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Thank you.

MatthewMansfield,

Learning Python is on my to-do list. I know Perl fairly well. Python and Perl are used to write online applications. I have written a Perl application that searches my hard drive for JPEGS. It rejects the low resolution ones, it corrects the camera rotation if necessary, and it builds a slide show. What do you want to accomplish?

I cannot think of many apps I would hire a civil engineer to write. If you are doing engineering calculations, you should learn MatLab and Octave.

Yup, fore xample many years ago I built an FEA program that selected the correct section size for each tube from the available ones given a constraint of stiffness and mass of the total structure. That is NOT the same as a general optimisation, because if you make 1 section larger than optimum because the optimum isn't available then you may be able to reduce the size of another one.

Cheers
