Hi!

I read several publications about stress relaxation of welded steel structures.
It's clear that stress relaxation happens at the first load cycles.
My curiosity concern the palstic deformations that's are local.
But these local deformations could lead a "little" permanent deformations of the entire structures?
In other words, loading a welded structure inside the elastic limit (i.e. nominal stress) could lead a minimal permanent deformations?

I'm speacking of structural steel with hgh toughness and about "local plastic deformation" due to the sum of residual stresses of welding process and stresses imposed by the load

Example: box welded beam - Nominal stress inside the elastic limit but local plastic deformations due to the sum of residual stresses of welding process and stresses imposed by the load

I didn't find publications or experimental results about this aspect

You already put this question. how much are your residual stresses beyond the elastic limit?
