Hi All,

I'm looking for help calculating ESALs from truck classes. I was provided traffic data for different FHWA truck classes, but I can't find axle loading based on these classes. Does FHWA/ AASHTO or some other organization have a resource that would help?

Thanks for any help!

One source that may help is the Caltrans Highway Design Manual §613. You can find it here: (you want Chapter 610, which includes §613).

This document includes a discussion about the development of traffic loads and a table that provides ESAL constants for long-term traffic loads. It doesn't appear that this directly addresses your question, but it may help.

Agree with Fred and would think that unless you have client specific site requirements, I would use the prescribed loadings for SU and MU vehicles for roadway design per your local jurisdiction / DOT.
