I created models. Wood: 1200*200*200 steel:600*200*10 bolts: 300 long with diameter 20. I set anisotropic properties for wood and include modulus of elasticity, poisson ration and shear modulus. i want to study the changes in displacement when steel plate is pulled out by force.
I set steps, interaction properties, load, bc condition and finally mesh. Job is ran , however , it is aborted. What solutions shall i take? It is desperating.
My loading is pressure tat act outwards, and equals to 50N/mm2.Bc is encastre at end of the wood.

RE: Modelling steel-wood-steel connection. Job aborted. Request for suggestion to changes in model.

To make the job complete try the following changes (they should work, I checked it on your model and now it runs to completition):
- refine the mesh because it’s rather coarse in your model and there are some bad quality elements
- reduce initial increment size to 0.01, decrease minimum increment size to 1E-15 and change maximum number of increments to 10000
- enable automatic stabilization (specify dissipated energy fraction option with default settings)
- verify correctness of contact pair definitions, if you are not sure how to define them properly then use Find Contact Pairs tool to automatically create contact pairs (or use general contact)

Thank you. FEA way. I solved after refine mesh by partition parts.

Hi guys. In my model, both of the steel plate are pulled by force and i want to record overall displacement of the part" wood". i set a reference point above "wood" but it has strange result. Do u have any idea how to get total displacement from correct location?

To find the displacement of wooden column you can either remove remaining instances from viewport/replace the view with wooden part instance (using display group options) or request history output at selected nodes/reference points (RPs have to be coupled to the mesh first).

By the way, the mesh is still too coarse. Especially around the connections.

White Paper - The Criticality of the E/E Architecture
Modern vehicles are highly sophisticated systems incorporating electrical, electronic, software and mechanical components. Mechanical systems are giving way to advanced software and electronic devices, driving automakers to innovate and differentiate their vehicles via the electric and electronic (E/E) architecture. As the pace of change accelerates, automotive companies need to evolve their development processes to deliver and maximize the value of these architectures. Download Now
White Paper - Model Based Engineering for Wire Harness Manufacturing
Modern cars, trucks, and other vehicles feature an ever-increasing number of sophisticated electrical and electronic features, placing a larger burden on the wiring harness that enables these new features. As complexity rises, current harness manufacturing methods are struggling to keep pace due to manual data exchanges and the inability to capture tribal knowledge. A model-based wire harness manufacturing engineering flow automates data exchange and captures tribal knowledge through design rules to help harness manufacturers improve harness quality and boost efficiency. White Paper - Modeling and Optimizing Wire Harness Costs for Variation Complexity
This paper will focus on the quantification of the complexity related costs in harness variations in order to model them, allowing automated algorithms to optimize for these costs. A number of real world examples will be provided as well. Since no two businesses are alike, it is the aim of this paper to provide the foundational knowledge and methodology so the reader can assess their own business to model how variation complexity costs affect their business.
