PWHT of attachment weld on on reinforcement paf

PWHT of attachment weld on on reinforcement paf

PWHT of attachment weld on on reinforcement paf

Dear All

Good day

We have an Ammonia storage sphere. It was heat treated and carbon steel material.

For supporting structure on top reinforcement pads are installed. On these reinforcement pads lugs are welded.

Query is that we are going to replace the lugs due to external corrosion. There are three reinforcement pads. Out of these two have weep hole and don't look pressure part. The third pad is reinforcement ring of nozzle and not has weep hole.

Question is since the vessel is heat treated. Should we require to pwht the fillet weld of lug to reinforcement joint. Can we avoid pwht as reinforcement pads with holes are non pressure parts.

Even if we believe these reinforcement rings were heat treated previously.

Though it is constructed on some British obselete code. But u can take asme section v111 for advice

Pls do refer some standard or code requirement for weld between two non pressure parts.

One nonpressure part heat treated for sure as it crosses welds of heat treated sphere.

Quick response is highly anticipated.

RE: PWHT of attachment weld on on reinforcement paf

Boil this down to:
Can a fillet weld be put on a PWHT tank without additional PWHT. Yes. See UW-40(f) for governing thickness of fillet welds.

RE: PWHT of attachment weld on on reinforcement paf

Contact the Jurisdiction and the Insurance Company if the vessel is insured. Refer to the NBIC.

RE: PWHT of attachment weld on on reinforcement paf

You have a reinforcement ring of a nozzle without a vent-hole / weep hole ?

RE: PWHT of attachment weld on on reinforcement paf

as per UG-82(a), reinforcement pads are pressure parts.
