Hello!
I'm modelling a bracing system for a construction pit. The system consists of 1) beams all around the pit, attached to sheet piles, 2) bracing beams in the corners and 3) one beam that goes across from one side of the pit to the other.
The model is a 2D grid, with joint restraints such as:
1) restrained vertical movement and rotation about vertical axis in the corners
2) restrained vertical movement on all connection of bracing beams with the beams that go around the pit
On the outer beams I applied an appropriate line load, which is not equal in both directions (but similar).
And now comes the question. The deformed shape shows that in some places the outer beams deform towards the outside of the pit, but this will not happen because the force needed to push the soil back is much higher that the one with which the soil pushes the beam towards the inside of the pit (which is the applied load). So is it possible to limit the deformation of a beam to only positive or negative direction of an axis? That should then result with different internal loads, right?
