Did any body can give advice the maximum acceptance and tolerance for misalignment in the welding joint of shell to head of the pressure vessel.

RE: missalignment of welding at Pressure vessel

Is this new construction or an existing vessel?
What code is it built to?

RE: missalignment of welding at Pressure vessel

From the AWS website:

Very few fabrication tolerances are stated on ASME VIII Code. The rest (and they're quite a few) are stated, as Joey clearly said, on Engineering Standards issued by engineering companies or corporations that are users of pressure vessels (Esso, Dupont, Monsanto, Dow Chemical etc. etc.). I've got with me, since my days of erector engineer, the fabrication tolerances issued by an engineering company called The Power Gas Corporation, from London, England. This company doesn't exist any more, so if I show their standard to someone else, I'm not infringing any patent nor am I revealing any confidential information that belongs to a company that doesn't exist.

RE: missalignment of welding at Pressure vessel

The final answer is that it really depends on the circumstances. For example, is the vessel in cyclic service?

RE: missalignment of welding at Pressure vessel

MJCronin,
Without being critical it may be better to state from the AWS forums website - that is someones personal opinion.
I initially thought it was from the AWS website - what are they doing involved in pressure vessels ?
Cheers,
Shane
