Hi Gentlemen

Could anybody provide me guidelines/procedure of testing and commissioning of MBR? at least the main components

RE: Hi Gentlemen Could anybody provi

The term 'membrane bioreactor' (MBR) is generally used to define wastewater treatment processes where a perm-selective membrane eg microfiltration or ultrafiltration is integrated with a biological process – a suspended growth bioreactor.

The guidelines/procedure of testing and commissioning of MBR will depend on what type of MBR that you have.

Maybe you can find something here:

RE: Hi Gentlemen Could anybody provi

Here are a couple of broad items you need to look at for a start.

What was in the specification for the supply of the MBR in terms of measurables:It might include any or all of the following:
Flow in/out
Water quality in/out: BOD/COD, TSS, TN , TP etc
Power consumption
Noise
Chemical consumption
Operator input/Maintenance

That gives you some parameters to investigate and test against.

Then you need to look at what has actually been supplied and how it is performing. If you want to be thorough you would look at every process unit and check that they are performing in accordance with the designers intent or the original specification. At the same time you will need to check that the water quality is meeting your requirements and that it is treating water that is about the same as the raw water originally specified.

A couple of things specifically to look at are:

Transmembrane pressures: How quickly these rise and whether or not they are being properly cleaned during the back flush. How long before a membrane clean is required.
Air flow rates for cross flow scouring and general aeration. Are these adequate? Are membrane fouling rates within specification/ Are the biological processes performing adequately?
Power consumption: Monitor this at least every day so that you can understand the impact of processes changes on the power bill.
Flow variations: Is the system able to deal with the normal anticipated variation in flow that occurs during the day , week and month.
