FEA of Base Plate with stiffeners on Solidworks

FEA of Base Plate with stiffeners on Solidworks

(OP)
I am trying to do FEA of a base plate with stiffeners but not able to resolve the contact sets. I tried to use defining the automatic contact sets but getting an error that force is not transferred. I have attached my model and would greatly appreciate if someone can help resolve this.

RE: FEA of Base Plate with stiffeners on Solidworks

Even though you are analyzing a beam attached to a base plate, you are analyzing such a short segment you shouldn't be using a beam element for it. Delete the one no penetration contact you have unless you are trying to analyze a broken weld. After that reapply your loading using a force and a torque on the solid at the end of the beam. It will run, then do your proper mesh refinements.

Thank you "gravityandinertia".

I did you have suggested i.e.

1. removed the 'no penetration' contact set
2. re-applied the load on the beam element - earlier i applied the load on the end node
3. re-run the mesh and analysis

However, now getting an error 'please define bonded contact sets between beam and solid/sheel'

Would greatly appreciate if you can help further.

You didn't convert the beam element to a solid element under the parts folder. To do so, right click on it under the parts folder and select "treat as solid"

Hello 'gravityandinertia'

I have now changed the treatment as solid and applied the force and moment creating a reference axis.

Could you please go through the attached revised model and let me know that now everything is OK.

I am so very grateful for your help.

Looks good to me as far as a successful setup goes, whether or not it practically matches your loading scenario and fixtures in the real world I can't say.

You're welcome.

Thanks a lot.

You have been really helpful.
