Shock load for the end of a piston

Hello everyone,

I'm having a bit of a problem determining the forces generated when a piston reaches the end of its stroke, and contacts with a screw in cap that retains it. I've tried just calculating the standard impulse for the system, but I didn't know the amount of deformation the impact would cause, making my answer very dubious.

So the situation is:
1) Piston (diameter D) accelerated by gas pressure (P) from standing down a bore.
2) Piston travels some distance (L) until contacting the screw in cap.
3) Piston comes to rest against the cap using a shoulder (area A), and is still under pressure from the gas.

I have the material properties for the cap and piston. Other things that may be relevant:
1) Force is large, and piston weight is small so it is a very fast acceleration
2)I need to determine this force to verify some thread stripping calculations
