liquefaction under structures

liquefaction under structures

Hi everyone:

-we are building a tunnel in west coast that is underlined by liquefiable soil deposit. We need to estimate settlement-induced liquefaction under the tunnel. The current formulas are only able to estimate volumetric strains . Based on my understanding, these are applicable for one-dimensional cases (e.g free field situation). Since under the tunnel, one will have 2D case and there will be significant shear-strain induced settlement as a result of liquefaction that are not taken into account in these formulas. My question is are there any available formulas or approaches ( other than numerical modeling) in literature to predict the shear-strain induced settlement under structures (not under sloping case).

-For assessing liquefaction potential we only went up to 50 m for measuring shear velocity . Are there any proposed extrapolation formulas in literature that can be used
