Hi all,

I am currently faced with a requirement from a customer to meet C5-M corrosion resistance on a die cast aluminium alloy. However it has to also have a RAL colour finish.

The component is quite small, i would describe as lunch box size, which i understand is quite small for a heavy duty paint system & will result in areas of high DFT.

Are there any alternative protections i can use to meet this? I am thinking of anodisation with a final powder coat, but is this something that is feasible?

All ideas/suggestions would be appreciated

Thanks
Gareth

Anodizing is possible, and so it powdercoating. You should preheat the casting (temperature below powdercoating curing point) to de-gas it (entrapped gas porosity is a common condition with high pressure die casting), which will prevent bubbles in the powdercoating.
