Stem for Valve

Generally valve material is selected based on process conditions. Assuming a fluid (without oxygen) and low corrosion rate however with very high chlorides.

If Carbon steel is selected for the body, can SS316 be used for trim for high chlorides?

As understood, the SCC only occurs when there is tensile stress however valve thim does not see tensile force.

Also has anyone seen failure of valve trim only due to chlorides ?

P wouldn't suggest using 316 in an application where you know that it will suffer pitting and crevice corrosion, along with possible CSCC. This isn't a good risk.
