Traceability of Steel, Quality of galvanization on chemical composition

Traceability of Steel, Quality of galvanization on chemical composition

(OP)
I have come across a situation wherein Structural steel to be purchased directly from main manufacturers of steel producer or from dealer with proper traceability of raw material for one of the projects.
The steel is galvanized cold formed steel for supporting Photo-Voltaic modules supporting structure in India. The design governing load is wind and deflection. The design requirement calls for steel material with specific Yield / Ultimate strength/ Elongation.

First query: how can we ensure the traceability of structural steel in process or after fabrication of steel structure? Is there any AISC/BS/IS code reference guidelines for it?
Second query: If there is difference in chemical composition of fabricated steel (test conducted by client) and Chemical composition mentioned in main manufacturer's supplied Test Certificate(TC) of raw material. Can I say that it is not same material for which manufacturer's material TC provided?
Third query: Is there is any effect of chemical composition galvanization thickness we achieve?
Thanks for the forum to raise my queries.
Regards,
RG

RE: Traceability of Steel, Quality of galvanization on chemical composition

First, you need to define what level of traceability you require for the structural steel product in question. I think you'll have a hard time establishing traceability of your material supply "in process or after fabrication of steel structure". If you require traceability of your material then you need to include this requirement in your purchase contracts. Your material supplier will need to provide a C of C and documentation establishing the level of traceability you require. Once you receive and accept the material, you will need to identify it and maintain inventory control of it. You will need to document where every piece of that material supply is used. Once a piece of the material is separated from its identification and becomes uncontrolled, there is no way to re-establish its traceability.

Thanks for the response against my first and second queries.

Is the EN1090 standard applicable? That one has some remarkable traceability requirements, with which I might be of help.
